Virgin Island Campground is a new and innovative idea in Caribbean vacationing. Our eco-friendly site combines the access and closeness to nature you expect from tent camping with the comfort and convenience of a hotel suite. Check out the info and photos below to get a sense of the atmosphere of our comfortable oasis!
Before you concern yourself with sleeping in a screened eco-cottage, understand that the average temperatures on Water Island are moderate; very moderate. With daytime highs rarely sneaking past the 80s and night time lows in the mid-70s sleeping in these breezy conditions is very comfortable and relaxing.
These eco-cottages help preserve paradise by being low impact and yet promote pampering in paradise by offering you all of the creature comforts of home. Each cottage has a queen bed OR 2 twin beds (which upon request, can be converted to a king bed), and all cottages have a double futon which can be converted to another bed. The beds are comfortable, and you will have all linens and towels, a clothes line, and a cooler. Each cottage has it’s own private ocean view porch with lounge chairs.
Each cabin is privately nestled in lush green foliage and is mindfully set up to create a low carbon footprint. They are designed by the owners and are a marvel of low-impact, eco-friendly design, drawing on electricity from the wind. Each cabin is supplied with a 110v outlet so you can charge your standard electronic devices.
The cottages sleep 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.
If your Caribbean dream is to find a private, clean bungalow where you can fall asleep to the gentle trade winds and the sound of the surf on a nearby beach then this place is for you.
So you love the idea of staying at our resort but want even more seculsion and more amenities. The Suite, situated on the side of Paul and Deborah’s home, takes it up a notch and offers a private kitchen, private bathroom and shower, sitting area, terrace and king size bed with a handmade driftwood headboard.
The Pavilion is the epicenter of the USVI Eco-Cottages. It is here where you will do all of your cooking. It is outfitted with two full-sized refrigerators, and ample storage cabinets for all of your dry goods. Each guest gets a set of dishes, cups, mugs, utensils and all cooking supplies for creating magnificent home cooked meals. There is a gas grill, coffee maker, stove top and unlimited filtered water. The large picnic table makes it a great spot for socializing with your fellow lodgers, sharing an snack, sipping on a glass of wine as you watch the sunset over the Caribbean or playing a game of cards. No food goes to waste here. Guests pass along leftovers groceries upon leaving and there is also a storage bin full of spices, oils, and coffee.
Some wonder how they will feel about sharing their dining and communal area with strangers. That concern vanishes as the new guests are quickly absorbed into the group. Guests share secret snorkeling locations, day-trip experiences and sometimes even a massive avocado that they picked up on a grocery run to St. Thomas.
Located only steps from your eco-cottages you will find the bathhouse with modern and clean facilities for washing and showering. Keeping with the desire to be low impact the water for the sinks and showers is captured rainwater and heated by solar energy. The toilets use both composting and gray water systems and are very clean. This is not a typical campground bathhouse. Being green doesn’t mean you need to give up comfort and cleanliness.
